Ahoy there, me hearties!

At the beginning  of this term, Room 9 began looking at a book named, 'Imagine you're a Pirate'.  This text fitted in beautifully with our theme 'Imagination' and sparked huge interest and excitement from the children!
To start off, we looked at what a pirate is and what they look like.  The book showed us lots of pictures of different pirates and the sorts of clothing and accessories that they might wear.  Room 9 then began to draw their very own pirates, including as many different pirate accessories as they liked.

These have been worked on over a couple of weeks - adding to them, labelling them, writing about them and using Explain Everything to orally describe them.

Very quickly, a couple of suggestions came about as to what we could make to do with pirates.  Ava suggested that we made pirate hats, as she remembered that we had some feathers in the cupboard and thought that these would be great for pirate hats!  Holly F throughout it would be a great idea if we looked at making our own treasure boxes!  Cool ideas girls!

So… Room 9 had a go at making their own pirate hats with Miss Paterson.  This led to further suggestions of making a treasure map (Lucas) and eye patches (Devlin).

In week 2, the children were given the task of designing their own treasure map for a buddy to follow, as part of their station activities.  These were then stained with tea, before the adults added the finishing touches to create the burnt effect.  At the end of the week, there was a treasure hunt!  The class buddied up, swapped maps and had to try and find the hidden piece of paper using the map.  Once the paper was discovered, Room 9 were very lucky to have then received some 'real treasure' from Miss Paterson (some yummy lollies!).

In that same week, Room 9 thought about the kinds of items that they would like to discover in a treasure box (lots of suggestions seemed to include chocolate!).

This week (week 4), we are starting to design our treasure boxes.  We are thinking about including lots of detail and the kinds of materials that we would like to use in order to eventually make them.

I wonder where our imaginations will take us next…?

  2. Well done room nine. You guys and girls are so clever because what you kids did a six year old couldn't do it as well as you kids because you are so smart.
