On Friday morning Room 9 were in for a treat because Lucas' mum asked if she could bring in 4 baby rabbits for us to see!! They were only 9 days old and could fit into the palms of our hands. There were 2 brown ones, one grey one (that was the smallest) and a brown and black one (which was the biggest).
First of all we passed the box containing the rabbits around the circle of friends, and had a pat of their silky, soft fur. We could see that their eyes were still closed and they didn't move around very much. Lucas' Mum (Angela) had wrapped a towel around the rabbits, and they liked to huddle up together to keep warm.
Next, Angela and Lucas took the babies out of the box one at a time and showed us how to carefully hold them. It was such a cool experience to hold their tiny, warm bodies in our hands.
Angela told us about how the mummy rabbit had prepared for the birth of her babies by pulling some of her own fur from her tummy in order to make a nest for them. We also found out that the babies should soon have their eyes open (at about 10 days old) and at 3 weeks old, they are hopping around.
We can't wait to have them back in a few weeks time to see how they have grown and changed!! :-)
